Reading Tips for Parents

  • Read  to your child everyday.
  • Listen to your child read everyday.
  • Get your child a library card and go to the library.
  • Provide books on his/her reading level. (I can provide that information.)
  • Get your child a subscription to a child's magazine; Nickelodeon, Mathmania, Zoobooks, National Geographic for Kids, Highlights, etc.
  • Read signs, billboards, buildings, etc. Challenge your child to read them to you.
  • Have your child read directions and recipes to you.
  • Let your child see you reading.
  • Encourage their reading - Praise, Praise, Praise!
  • Remember you are your child's first and most important teacher. They model you whether you want them to or not.
