PTA Positions

EXECUTIVE BOARD MEMEBERS

President
The president presides at general and executive board meetings, acts as a liaison with the principal, and leads the PTA by coordinating work of officers and committees. Represents Pat Nixon at the council level. Works closely with the executive board.
Time: @10-15 hours monthly.
Secretary
The secretary is responsible for taking minutes at general and executive board meetings, distributing the minutes and in some cases handling correspondence (as needed). The secretary will maintain the school PTA binder that is found in the school office.
Time: @5-10 hours monthly.
Treasurer
The treasurer helps develop a budget, collects fundraising money, writes checks for purchases and reimbursements, tracks all income and spending, makes financial reports at meetings, and prepares the books for periodic audits and taxes.
Time: @5-10 hours monthly.
1st Vice President of Programs
The 1st vice president assists the president and steps in for the president as needed. The 1st vice present of programs will oversee and support the various committees under programs: Red Ribbon, Talent Show, Family Fun Nights, Career Day, the reading program, etc.. The VP of Programs works closely with the chairs to carry out the events as well as seek different events and opportunities to offer our families. Management of timelines is key.
Time: varies throughout the year - @ 5 - 10 hours monthly.
2nd Vice President of Ways and Means/Fundraising
The 2nd vice president looks at possible fundraising programs, recommends and implements the fall fundraiser and those during the school year (if any). Responsible for coordination of volunteers and record keeping of funds collected. Oversee and support the various committees under Ways and Means: T-shirts, Box Tops, School Cents, Fall and Spring Pictures, Family Dine-in Nights. The VP of Ways and Means works closely with the chairs to carry out the events, create timelines and assist the chairpersons as needed.
Time: varies throughout the year - @ 10 - 15 hours monthly.
3rd Vice President of Hospitality
Responsible for coordinating and developing PTA activities such as: Back to School Day, Ice-Cream Socials (2), Day of the Employee (May), Graduation Ceremony, and welcoming new families. The vice president of hospitality will work with the main office to find out when new families arrive to the school. A welcome letter or card will be sent to them.
Time: varies throughout the year - @ 5 - 10 hours monthly.
4th Vice President of Membership
Responsible for PTA membership drive that usually begins in October. The vice president of membership will maintain the centralized list of members and will submit dues to council according to deadlines. A Fall and possibly Spring membership drive usually takes place. The VP of membership also organizes the distribution of membership cards, incentives, and publications about the drive.
Time: varies throughout the year - @ 5 - 10 hours monthly - main focus is in the fall.
Historian
Assembles and preserves a record of activities, achievements and volunteer hours of our PTA. Assists the president with monthly council reports and year end council report.
Time: varies throughout the year - @ 5 hours monthly.
Parliamentarian
Attends all meetings and gives necessary help in parliamentary procedure when needed. Chair the by-laws review committee and call first nominating committee meeting.
Time: varies throughout the year - @ 5 hours monthly.
Auditor
Prepares two (2) audits per year on the books and financial records of our PTA. Work with the treasurer.
Time: 10-20 hours for the year.


COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSONS:

Back to School Chair
Develop and coordinate decorations or something fun for students the first day of school.
Time: @5 hours for the school year.
Box Tops/Fresh and Easy Chair
Coordinate the promotion, collecting, cutting, counting and submission of box tops. Coordinate the Fresh and Easy Shopping Program in the fall.
Time: @5 - 10 hours varies.
Career Day Chair
Coordinate presenters, distribute communication and work closely with the school office the day of the event and execute Career Day on campus. Day of event: coordinate volunteers assisting that day with hospitality, escorting guests, follow-up etc.
Time: 10-20 hours for the school year.
Community Read Aloud
Coordinate volunteers to come in and read books to the students. Other activities may be developed.
Time: Events takes place in March - 5-10 hours to coordinate.
Day of the Employee Chair
Develop a theme and carryout the day in honor of the Nixon staff.
Time: @ 5-10 hours in May.
Fall and Spring Pictures Chair
Contact the photographer, work with school office and assist the photographer with running the schedule on picture day.
Time: @ 20-25 hours for the school year.
Family Dine-in/Sprit Nights Chair
Coordinate Dine-in nights in various locations throughout the year to create community within the school and raise some funds for the school. Develop and distribute flyers.
Time: 20-25 hours for the school year.
Family Nights Chair
Develop and coordinate activities to promote school and family unity. Develop and distribute flyers.
Time: 20-25 hours for the school year.
Graduation/Promotion Day Chair
Assist the 6th grade staff and/or principal with carrying out activities for graduation/promotion day.
Time: @ 5-10 hours in June.
Ice Cream Social Chair
Coordinate and purchase items necessary for the two ice cream socials in the year. First one is a "back-to-school ice cream social" and the second "yearbook signing ice-cream social." Develop and distribute flyers.
Time: @ 5-10 hours in June.
Reading Program Assistant Chair
Work closely with school appointed Reading Program chair to assist with theme ideas, incentives, planning of events, etc. Volunteers needed to copy reading logs, tally reading logs and give reports at the end of each month.
Time: @4-5 hours monthly.
Red Ribbon Chair
This is a school-wide Drug Aware- ness program. The red ribbon chair will create various opportunities and distribute information during the week. The chair will work closely with volunteers to decorate the campus, purchase items needed and come up with the theme for the year.
Time: Sept. (prep time); October: prep and the actual week: October 26-30. As Chair: @ 20 hours overall; as a volunteer: @5-10 hours overall.
Reflections Program Chair
Support the Art Program offered by PTA.
Time: 20-30 hours for the year.
School Cents and Jamba Juice Program Chair
Be the liaison and school representative for School Cents (with the local malls) and Jamba Juice Sip to Support Schools swipe cards. Distribute information to the school and submit receipts for school credit.
Time: @5-10 hours monthly (varies)
Talent Show Chair or Committee member
As Chair, this person would organize the talent show: secure location, set auditions, rehearsals, order of show, and manage committee. As a committee member, you would oversee the area assigned to you. Areas may be: publication, decorations, runner, backstage, communication.
Time: Chair: @ 40 hours throughout the year leading to the Talent show in May. As committee member: @20 hours throughout the year leading up to the show.
T-Shirt Chair
Coordinate and order t-shirts and sweat- shirts for the school, keep records of funds (incoming and outgoing) work with the vendor, and distribute communication as needed.
Time: @ 3-5 hours monthly- hours would vary.
Volunteer Coordinator
Solicit and try to plug in volunteers to the various opportunities that PTA offers. The volunteer coordinator will maintain a database of the volunteer pool.

Yearbook Chair
Oversee the production and design of the schools' yearbook. Work closely with chief editors to coordinate picture taking, developing of pages, sales and other duties needed to execute the schools' yearbook.
