JANUARY NEWSLETTER
Happy New Year! We hope you had a wonderful vacation and enjoyed the holidays with your families. Thank you to all of the families who donated items for our stockings. The children were very happy with all of the goodies!
LANGUAGE ARTS
This month we will study the letters Vv, Cc, Gg and reading words with the short a sound. In addition to the individual sounds, we will also continue to blend these sounds to make words. (ex. cat, fat, man, etc.) As we begin the new year, it will be very important for the children to continually review and practice the previous sounds that we have learned. Knowing the alphabet letters and sounds is crucial for beginning reading. Our literature themes for the month will focus on the season of winter, snow, snowmen and winter clothing. Some of the books that we will read are: The Mitten, The Three Bears, Martin Luther King, The Snowy Day
SCIENCE AND HEALTH
Our focus in science will be in the area of physical science. We will be learning about the properties of magnets and we will be learning about why some objects sink and some float.
In health this month we will be learning about how to effectively solve problems using specific problem solving strategies. Also, we will be learning about the importance of tooth care.

Did You Know?
- Many jackets, sweaters, etc. look the same, so please make sure your child's clothing is labeled in case they are lost, or left behind.
- Continue to encourage your child to use "inventive spelling" in their wrtiting. Inventive spelling is when a child will write the sounds they hear in words. (ex. pwr rngr = power ranger, frnd = friend) Even though you/they may be uncomfortable with the misspelling, the children are advancing in their ability to communicate with words!
